Switches and packet technologies have allowed businesses to enjoy the speed and reliability of OC-12 lines, originally intended for use solely by the carriers. Many businesses in Arkansas choose to locate, or relocate their business, in a building with an existing OC-12 line installed (see Lit Building). By sharing the OC-12 line with other businesses in the building, access costs can drop dramatically, but may be offset by higher property rental costs.
